So I've been using my NookColor at the shop to continue writing my Ardor story and it's growing and growing. I have to keep reminding myself that I am not writing a novel here, just a story, but the characters are not cooperating with that. Also, they are playing games with me. For instance, one character was supposed to be wounded. But when the scene played out under my very fast finger on the touch keyboard, it turned out that it was the other main character that got injured instead. WTF? The characters are determined to write their own story and I'm just along for the ride. It's turning into a fun ride though. Since life is a roller coaster, I have included roller coaster pics today...

The Ides of March with Caesar's assassination has nothing on April 15th, but the events of the 15th were staged on the 14th. Within fifty years of each other, two major events happened that still reverberate now, a century or more later. One was the death of a single person, the other the deaths of more than 1500, but each still echo. So let's walk through history for a little while today.

I got the most beautiful postcard in the mail yesterday. An on-line friend (and totally amazing person) Dawn, had been going on a quick trip to England and Scotland with her husband Bobby. She always asks if people want postcards, and she is totally serious. I have gotten beauties from her vacations in the past. I asked for a postcard with a castle (I know there are a lot of castles in Scotland) and the card she sent me had three! And they are all fantastically beautiful! It made me smile all day.

I've got two stories in the pipeline that have to be completed by early next week, so I've got some work to do on them this morning. It is a holiday weekend, many people didn't have to work yesterady so we had a nice regular day at the shop - lots of hand-holding and helping people out but a really fun and interesting day. Ideally today will also be a busy one, we really need a good week this week and the potential is there but we won't know until I lock the door at 5 pm

So things progress. I need to find one single report for the accountant that I didn't have (grumble, growl). I had everything else perfectly organized, just one was missing. So now my financial life is sitting in two grocery bags in front of my closet until I get a day off to put everything away properly. More mess for my room *sigh*.

Today is the birthday of two very important and vitally different people who followed their dreams and changed the world. The first person is Steve Jobs. Love him or hate him, you can't dispute his very prevelant presence over our everyday modern life. From Apple computers to the iPods in your pocket to iTunes and features of the cloud, Steve Jobs made an impact in so many aspects of our modern life that his ripples reached throughout the earth.

Today is my studio day and I'm hoping that I actually get it. But that may not be the case. DH is still sick and he works for me on Wednesdays. I may well get a phone call in the afternoon to come into the shop and work the rest of the day. That would mess up my laundry, working on my final pic for Binky, and my weekly phone call with Marlyn. All things that I was looking forward to (well, to be truthful, I usually don't look forward to laundry, just to the results of having clean towels and clothes). But, if I have to, I'll go in and try to work on my laptop instead of at home. I won't be happy though.

What a week. With my poor DH down with diverticulitis and, after beginning to heal from that, coming down with the beginnings of the flu, it's been unbelievable stressful and I've had to work a six-day week. On the writing front, I finished and turned in a LOTR Community story, I'm almost finished with my SV story, and I did another drabble - this time to address the word "borrow". My first attempt was dismal and I pulled it the next day. My second attempt moved it's scope over to one of my more familiar playgrounds - Ost-in-Edhel and the admittance of Annatar into the Gwaith-i-Mirdain. This version I was pleased with and put it up for concrit. Changes suggested were looked at and, if I felt they were consistent with my inner view of the scene, were incorporated.

I wrote earlier about the robins who built a nest on top of the light next to my front door.

On Wednesday I was driving home to dive into my artwork for the day (I actually accomplished a lot that day - fun, fun, fun) when I came up a small hill to find traffic stopped while two Canada Goose parents and their long-legged offspring crossed the road.  They looked so funny, and the goslings were all leg topped by fluff.  They successfully stopped four lanes of traffic while they crossed.

And I got to the next stage in my Big Bang artwork.  I did one chapter heading and my DH said he will try and give me all of Sunday for my enamel work.  That would help a lot because I have a lot of persnickety work to do.  I have all of the various stencils cut out and think that three or four separate firings might do it, but I'll know more after the day is up because there is a lot that I may still need to do to polish things off.  I know that I nave a lot of glue work to do, followed by a clearcoat.  Since I cut one extra part, I can test the clearcoat out on that first.  I also did the text for my Silhouette and I'll set that up and get those letters cut out for application on Tuesday (I had to switch studio days from Wednesday to Tuesday next week).  Using that equipment always takes a bit longer than I originally think it will :-)  Have a great weekend!

So the state of Arizona is experiencing the largest wildfire in the state's history centered around Springerville, AZ.  Springerville is west of Phoenix, close to the New Mexican border, and in 1977, I worked an archaeological dig in that general area.

I have four story promts staring me in the face, and none of them are working for me.  Of course, that doesn't make any difference since it is the challenge of making the words work for the challenge, rather than making a challenge fit my personal storylines, but I have so many other things going on right now, I am a bit reluctant to dive into some of these.  I'll see what I can do this morning, but I also want to progress on my artwork for Darth's story which is coming together in my head and in real life.  If it all comes together, it will be a new focus for my multimedia artwork...rather fun.  My deadline is quickly approaching and I will have at least two days available for some intensive enamel work, so I think I'll be able to pull this off :-)

So, I ground down and did the final shaping on my glass on Thursday night, then figured a firing schedule that should have allowed some slump of the glass.  I set the program, fired the glass, and nothing happened.

It's been a great ride so far and I've enjoyed all of it.

The world is supposed to end today, or at least the "Rapture" is supposed to happen...on a rolling schedule at 6:00 p.m. tonight.  I guess I'll meet all of you later tonight since I certainly won't be Raptured anywhere.  The whole thought of being with people who are that single-minded, without the different opinions that a variety of belief systems can inspire.  But, if the world does happen to end...well, it's been a great ride and thanks for all the fish.

I was never the popular girl in school.  Oh, I had friends - I didn't sit in the corner without anyone else to play with.  But I wasn't one of the top dogs, the ones who always had a cluster around them.

So, it's my birthday, combined with my day off, combined with my studio day today.  I have one story being beta read by a friend in Arizona, and another that I will post later today.

Photos and Odd Historic Fact below... )

We had clouds like this over our western suburbs last night when
we had hail and tornado warnings.  Ah...spring in Minnesota.

But for having spent years walking this earth, I doubt I would change much.  This past year has been wonderfully growth-oriented.  I've started great projects, continued work on my artistic focus, gained many new internet friends, and started writing.  I really can't complain because it's all good.

As a note of historic significance, on this date in 1659, the Massachusetts Bay Colony Puritans banned Christmas celebrations claiming that they were too Pagan.  Love it - thank goodness we loosened up a bit from those days :-)  Enjoy your day - I know I'll enjoy mine.
